Description

It is enough to read the data of the ascent to understand that there is no way to hide. The "non-climbers" go up zigzagging, praying that the agony will end as soon as possible. The maximum slope? A 27% ramp 1 km from the finish. And to think that the Sutrio side is not even the hardest one because the Corsa Rosa has almost always preferred the even more terrifying side of Ovaro: shorter but with slopes of a real mule track. Gilberto Simoni was the first to baptize both sides, in 2003 from Sutrio and in 2007 from Ovaro. Then Ivan Basso in 2010, Igor Anton in 2011, Michael Rogers in 2014 and Chris Froome in 2018 won, always starting from Ovaro. The 2021 Giro saw the feat of our Lorenzo Fortunato who won the stage showing all his talent. The common denominator is cheering: a flood of people sitting in the meadows applauding and cheering on the runners.
