Description
It is one of the great cycling dreams of racing bike enthusiasts: to reach the top and enter the legendary club des Cinglés, the brotherhood of the “madmen” of Monte Ventoso.
Monte Calvo, with its almost lunar landscape, became legendary thanks to the 1951 Tour de France and through the victories of great champions such as Charlie Gaul, Eddy Merckx, Raymond Poulidor, Marco Pantani and Chris Froome.
The climb is a great challenge and can be covered on three sides. It is important to try your hand at the enterprise well prepared, knowing the paths and difficulties that you might encounter, always paying particular attention to the climatic conditions.
The classic starts from Bedoin: 22.7 km with an altitude difference of 1,610 meters and an average gradient of 7.5%, which also reaches peaks of 10%.
It is the best known, the most historic and the most spectacular, so much so that it is often chosen as a stage of the Tour de France.
